Some FAQs about Fireproof Safes

Are all safes fireproof?

Whilst security safes help to keep your possessions secure – out of reach of opportunistic criminals – not all of them protect against fire.

However, the fireproof safes we supply, here at eSafes, do a remarkable job of protecting paper documents from heat and smoke damage, as well as digital and film records.

Our fire safes offer 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes of fire resistance – so you should have no problem finding something suitable for your home or office.

And if you’re unsure which fireproof safe to invest in, don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’d be more than happy to guide and advise you.

How much should I pay for a good fireproof safe?

A decent fireproof safe can cost anywhere from £50, right the way up to £15,000, depending on the brand, shape, size and level of resistance it provides.

Here at eSafes, we stock an extensive range of fire-resistant safes from renowned brands, including (but not limited to) Phoenix Safes and Securikey. Although each of these will be manufactured to an exceptionally high standard, and include a host of features, different manufacturers price their products differently.

Safes that are bigger or awkward in shape are often more pricey than smaller ones, as they require additional time to design and manufacture them – and the installation process is usually trickier, too.

If you can afford to splurge a little extra on a fire safe, then we highly recommend choosing one with a higher cash rating (i.e. 90 minutes or 120 minutes), as these will protect your documents and data for longer under extreme temperatures and smoke.

Where is the best place to install a fireproof safe?

A fire-resistant safe can be installed almost anywhere around the house or office to ensure your important documents and media are kept out of harm’s way.

Keeping your safe in a secure spot – ideally, somewhere that won’t tempt opportunists to break into it – is good practice and will ensure maximum security for the items held within the safe. This could be anywhere from behind a hidden door, in the wall or under the floorboards.

However, as heat rises, (by far) the safest place to install a fireproof cabinet is on the ground floor, in a corner where two walls meet.

How do I decide which fire-rated safe to choose?

Here at eSafes, our safes offer varying levels of protection, including:

·         Standard – up to 30 minutes of fire resistance

·         Medium – up to 60 minutes of fire resistance

·         High – up to 90 minutes of fire resistance

·         Maximum – up to 120 minutes of fire resistance

Choosing the right fire-rated safe often depends on the documents and type of media you need to protect. But with the help of our security specialists, we can guide and advise you on selecting the perfect one.
